Mr. James H. “Red” Davis II, 82, of Swainsboro died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Emanuel Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Davis was a native of Emanuel County and was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Ethel Reese Davis, wife of 61 years, Mary Ottie Howard Davis who passed away in August 2010, brothers, J. C. Davis and Eugene Davis.
Mr. Davis retired with the rank of Trooper First Class with the Georgia State Patrol in 1979 after 23 years of service. During his time with the patrol, he served numerous counties and was stationed at Post 19. He was recognized as an excellent Marksman by the National Rifle Association. Mr. Davis was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed gardening and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his daughters, Blenda Davis Allen and Jean Davis Black both of Statesboro, Ann Davis of Columbia SC; son, James H. Davis III of Swainsboro; brothers, Wallace and Alton Davis both of Dearing; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 13, with Rev. Mark Hardin officiating. Burial will be at Eastbrook Cemetery, Swainsboro.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of service Monday, June 13 at Chapman Funeral Home, Swainsboro.
Pallbearers will be Brent Allen, Robert Black, Barney Allen and James Wright
Honorary pallbearers will be retired and active members of the Georgia State Patrol and employees of the United Post Acute Care, Swainsboro.
