Jason Alan Johnson

Mr. Jason Alan Johnson, 54, of Swainsboro, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, GA, after an extended illness. He was born on December 3, 1971, to Richard A. Johnson of Garfield and Sara J. Johnson Claxton of Swainsboro.

An honor graduate, STAR student, of his graduating class of 1990 at Emanuel County Institute in Twin City.

While in high school, Jason served as President of Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Beta Club, and the Sierra Club. He held membership in numerous organizations such as the Citizens Advisory Council for the Emanuel County School System, National Audubon Society, the National Humane Education Society, and many others. Jason attained the highest SAT test score before graduating from ECI High School. He was awarded “Youth of the Year” Emanuel County in 1990 for his many accomplishments.

After graduating from ECI, he attended formerly East Georgia College in Swainsboro with a degree in Biology.

He graduated in 1991 from Funeral Services Institute in Deerfield, Florida with a degree in Mortuary Technician Certification. In 1994, he was an honor graduate of Simmons Institute of funeral service in Syracuse, New York with an associate’s degree in occupational sciences. Jason founded Johnson Funeral Home in 1994 and owned Church Street Manor. 

Jason was always involved in anything that he thought of to improve the well-being of society and preservation of the earth and the environment that we live in. He will truly be missed by all who knew him, always telling a good joke as well as being kindhearted and a giving person with a good spirit. Jason never met a stranger in his life and would always ask if he could help you.

Jason was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl and Helen Johnson of Garfield; maternal grandparents, Frank and Lois Johnson of Wrightsville; stepmother, Danita Johnson of Garfield.

Survivors include his mother, Sara J. Claxton and stepfather, Richard Claxton, Jr.; father, Richard A. Johnson; sister, Amy Johnson, both of Garfield; special friends, Ralph Cowart of Statesboro, Len Tanner of Augusta; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Lamar Kersey and Reverend Franklin Sasser officiating.

Interment will follow in Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Garfield.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 1, 2026, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tjboux Johnson, Sam Woods, Ralph Cowart, Lake Woods, and D.W. Ego.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Emanuel County Historical Society, the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, and the Emauel County Humane Society.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask to make donations to the above mentioned organizations.
