Mrs. Jaunita Rowland Phillips Lott, 99, of Swainsboro passed peacefully in her sleep Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Emanuel County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Jaunita was born in Stillmore on September 3, 1914, the oldest child of the late Remus Walter Rowland and Trudie Lowe Rowland. When she was twelve, her mother passed away and she had to take on the role of mother of her five siblings, Ruth, Ora Mae, Hubert, Gertrude and R. W. Mrs. Jaunita was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Walter "Bill" Phillips, Sr. and Kenneth Lott; son, Arthur Walter Phillips, Jr.; sisters, Ruth Edenfield and Ora Mae Roberson; brothers; Hubert Rowland and R. W. Rowland.
Mrs. Lott will be remembered from her employment at Darling Five and Dime, Allied Department Store and at the age of 87, retiring from Wal-Mart. She thoroughly enjoyed working, meeting the public, sewing, making quilts, growing flowers and vegetables, cutting her own grass with a push mower and driving her P. T. Cruiser
She was a devout Christian joining New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Lexsy as a teenager. Her membership was later transferred to Mt. Shady Baptist Church in Swainsboro where she enjoyed gospel singing and dinner on the grounds. Her specialty was chocolate delight.
Survivors include her sister, Gertrude Thompson of Swainsboro; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rowland of Swainsboro; “Aunt Jaunita” will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Shady Baptist Church at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning, September 18, 2013 with Reverends Wilmer Hall and Wayne Page officiating. Mrs. Lott will Lie in State one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery next to her husband Bill Phillips.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday September 17, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Danny Rowland, Mike Rowland, Walter Rowland, Tim Edenfield, Robert Edenfield and Randy Thompson
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Amazing Grace Sunday School Class
