Mr. Jerry Lee “Cowboy” Burke, 68, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Pruitt Health Nursing Home of Swainsboro following an extended illness.
Mr. Burke was born December 22, 1946 in Millen to the late Arnold Burke and Vity Williams Burke. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Courtney Burke; brother, Joseph Burke; sister, Pearl Williams and Geneva Braswell. Mr. Burke moved to Swainsboro as a teenage to work at Pages Red and White. Later in life he became foreman in the shipping department at Keller Industries and became a truck driver with B and B Trucking. He was known as Cowboy by all of the truckers. Mr. Burke liked to fish, work in the garden and spend time with his family and friends. He attended the Summertown Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dinah Burke of Swainsboro; daughters, Cindy Beamon of Lawrenceveille, Kathi (Mark) Hudson of Adrian, Sherry Burke (James) O’Gallagher of Sugar Hill; sons, Paul (Angela) Burke of Dacula, Shane (Becky) Burke of Midville and Terry Burke (Tabitha Kirby) of Guyton; sisters, Mazie (Ralph) Marsh of Millen, Ethel (Steve) Volf of Sylvania and Linda (Salih) Zubcevic of Houston TX; devoted pet, Bubba; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, April 11, 2015 with Rev. Keith Claxton officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time of service.
