Jessie James Owens, Sr.

Mr. Jessie James Owens, Sr., 87, of Swainsboro passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Emanuel Medical Center. He was born on September 2, 1939, in Swainsboro to the late Frank Owens and Dellie Brown Powell.

Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Jean Tanner Owens; sons, Robert Wayne Owens, Jessie James Owens, Jr.; brother, Roosevelt Owens; sister, Marie Owens Joiner.

Survivors include his daughter, Wanda Owens of Swainsboro; other family members and friends.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2026, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Butch Taylor and Reverend Tom Tidwell officiating.

Interment will follow in Swainsboro City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Wood, Dallas Deriso, Frankie Joiner, Ricky Henry, Dal Deriso, and Aaron Taylor.
