Jill Henry Landing

February 13, 1954 — September 11, 2025

Swainsboro

Jill Henry Landing passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025 after an extended illness surrounded by her children and best friend.

Jill was born on February 13, 1954 in Metter, Georgia to Inell Amerson. When Jill was very young, her mother married MSG Berlie Ellis Henry, and Berlie fell in love with not only her mother but Jill also. He adopted her when she was a young child shortly after marrying Inell. Berlie loved Jill and her mother unconditionally. He served in the US Army for many years and after traveling with her father and mother around the country during his service, including being stationed in Alaska where Jill’s sister Terry was born, the family settled in Swainsboro, Georgia after Berlie’s retirement.

Jill graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1972, attended Brewton-Parker College, Emanuel County Junior College and later in the 1990s with her daughter, East Georgia State College.

Jill was an amazing southern cook and was always very loving and warm to all who met her. When her nephews were younger and traveled with their parents to visit the family in Georgia, they always prayed that “Aunt Jill” would invite them over for supper.

She was known as “Bella” to her two grandsons whom she adored and treasured. Even though there are many wonderful mothers on this earth, she was one of the best in the eyes of her children. There was never a time she did not selflessly give of herself for her daughter and son. Jill stressed to her children to “Always look your best! You never know who is watching you.” To this day her children follow this good advice.

Jill was known to her very best friend as “wild woman” and never failed to have a story to share with her bestie that would always make them both laugh hysterically.

Jill was a homemaker after the birth of her daughter and later after the birth of her son. Once they were in school, she worked as a cosmetologist at Merle Norman Cosmetics in Swainsboro and Dublin. She also worked for years alongside many of her good friends at Faircloth Welding in Swainsboro, Robins Federal Credit Union in Swainsboro and retired in 2020 from Community Alliance Credit Union in Livonia, Michigan.

Jill was also an accomplished artist who enjoyed drawing and painting in her spare time. Her favorite medium was watercolor on canvas, and she enjoyed painting ceramics, too. Her best works of art are of her children, sister and nephews. Another hobby of hers was collecting thimbles from all over the world. Many friends, family members and friends of friends knew to bring Jill a thimble if they were going on an extended trip or vacation.

She is preceded in death by her parents, MSG Berlie Ellis and Inell Amerson Henry, sister Terry Trimble, Uncle James W. “Jim” Buckley, Uncle Tervyn Amerson, along with several other special aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors are her daughter Tifani Landing Pool (Scot), her son John Henry Landing (Sara), grandsons Ellis V. Pool and James H. Landing, her brother-in-law Rev. Mike Trimble, her nephews Ben Trimble, Byron Trimble (Hannah), Dr. Blake Trimble (Daniella), her great-nieces Dr. Emma Kate, Everly and Eliza Trimble, her great-nephew Elliott Trimble, her very special best friend of over forty years Teresa H. Deaton (Steve), aunts Mary Wilson and Imogene Buckley, cousins Alan Wilson (Pam), Tammy Peebles, Ricky McKenzie (Sharon) and many other special family members.

She is also survived by her best friends from the Swainsboro High School class of 1972. Jill absolutely adored and loved her classmate friends and continued to connect with them throughout the years after graduation and especially the past five years when she returned “home” to Swainsboro.

The family would like to give a special “thank you” to their family members and Jill’s friends along with the Swainsboro and Emanuel County community for warmly welcoming Jill back after living in Michigan for 20 years. So many came to her side to give her company, bring her food, build ramps at her places of residence for her to use, take her to countless doctor visits, take her to hear her favorite band play and travel with her to be with her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to express another special “thank you” to the CCU team at the Fairview Park Hospital and Georgia Hospice Care for their compassionate care they gave to Jill during her final days.

Pallbearers will be John H. Landing, Scot V. Pool, Ben Trimble, Byron Trimble, Dr. Blake Trimble and Jack Whitehead.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Swainsboro High School class of 1972.
