John Richard Chavis

Mr. John Richard Chavis, 58, of Swainsboro was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at his residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice and with his love ones by his side, following an extended illness.

Mr. Chavis was born January 26, 1960 in Swainsboro, Ga. to the late William Chavis, Sr. and Christine Wilcher Chavis. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Chavis; step-daughter, Loretta Conley Sanchez; great-granddaughter, Adilynn Carter. Mr. Chavis was employed by Handi House Mfg. for 33 years before coming disabled in 2015. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with love ones.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Jean Brown Chavis of Swainsboro; step-daughters, Lisa Hooks (Steve) of Swainsboro, Roxanne Gay (Jay) of Norristown, and Rebecca Fletcher (Kris) of Rentz; brothers, William Chavis, Jr. (Wanda) of Swainsboro, Jerry Chavis of Augusta, and Michael Chavis of Vidalia; sister, Bonnie Chavis (Darrel) of Adrian; grandchildren, Darrell Martin, Amber Gay, Brandon Gay (Brooke), Kelsey Gay (Matt Giles), Jayson Gay, Jace Gay, Carlos Conley, Megan Conley, and Wesley Carter (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Kingston Gay, Lakelynn Gay, and Raelynn Carter; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 with Reverend Arthur Conley officiating.

Interment will follow at Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Franklin Brown, Wayne Coxwell, Darrell Martin, Jr., Christopher Hooks, Jerry Cox, Jr., and Mitchell Conley.
