Mr. John Alton Gillis, 76, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at Emanuel Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Gillis was born February 8, 1945, in Soperton to the late George Neal Gillis and Inez Andrews Gillis. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Neal Gillis, Terry Gillis, Billy Gillis, Howard Gillis; sister, Addie Sue Savoy.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Gillis of Swainsboro; special son, Delandro Gillis of Swainsboro; sons, Alton Gillis, Jr. (Renee) of Vidalia, Kenneth Gillis and Ricardo Gillis, both of Swainsboro; daughters, Cynthia Worthen (Alex), Catrina Gillis Grant (Alex), Tiffany Gillis, Kisha Gillis, all of Swainsboro, Ashley Ricks of Macon, Shanteria Taylor of Phenix City, AL; brothers, Verlon Gillis (Willie Ruth) and Vernon Gillis (Martha Ann), both of Swainsboro, Bobby Gillis (Eunora) of Fairfield, CA; sister, Karen Gillis Young of Swainsboro; 28 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Swainsboro City Auditorium.
Interment will follow at Boiling Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Men Reaching Men.
