Mr. Joseph Harville “JH” Wheeler, Jr., 86, of McDonough GA formerly of Emanuel County passed away Friday night, February 6, 2015 on the day of his brothers birthday at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Wheeler was born January 17, 1929 to the late Joseph Harville Wheeler, Sr. and Ola Woods Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler was a life long resident of Emanuel County. He moved from Emanuel County to Johnson County where he assisted in opening Built-Well Homes where he worked for years until Adrian Housing Corporation was formed. He worked there until it was sold and retired shortly afterward.
He maintained a home in Treutlen County while having residences at Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville and Wilmington Island at various times of his life.
Mr. Wheeler was an avid hunter and fisherman during his lifetime. He was a member of AKC and UKC Hunting Organization. He was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church near Kite.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Price Wheeler of McDonough; daughters, Frankie (Allan) Malone of Vidalia and Vickie Wheeler of Atlanta; sisters, Ann Whitfield of Harlem and Marilyn Harrison of Kite; grandchildren, Jessica Simmons (Brooks) Collins of Twin City, Wes (Haley) Simmons of Statesboro and Ansley Malone of Vidalia; great grandchildren, Cody Collins and Ashlyn Collins both of Twin City; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Chapel Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, February 9, 2015 with Reverend Ray Jenkins officiating. Mr. Wheeler will Lie in State one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery near Kite with Reverend Larry Compton officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, February 8, 2015 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Wes Simmons, Cody Collins, Allan Malone, Bruce Whitfield, Dennis Whitfield, Bennie Harrison, Brooks Collins and Kyle Ricks
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Webb, Jack Webb, Bill Simmons, Herman Price, Roger Johnson, Travis Garrett, Jim Curry, Rick Malone and Bill Sasser.
