Mrs. Joyce Emmie Thurman, 72, of Laurens, SC formally of Swainsboro died Saturday, January 7, 2012, in the Hospice of Laurens County in Clinton, SC from an extended illness.
Mrs. Thurman was born in Johnson County, but was a life long residence of Swainsboro prior to moving to Laurens, SC four years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie Jordan Bedgood and Mattie Caraway Bedgood, daughter, Teresa Usry, brothers, Verlon Bedgood and Lynward Bedgood, sisters, Bessie Bedgood and Madge Slater.
Mrs. Thurman loved sewing, working in her flower garden and spending time with grandchildren. She attended Eastwood Church of God in Swainsboro.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Bobby Thurman of Laurens S.C.; son, Ricky (Terry) Thurman of Swainsboro; daughter, Lisa (Don) Braswell of Laurens, SC; brothers, C.J. (Florence) Bedgood and Willie Pearce (Jo Ann) Bedgood both of Swainsboro; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon January 10, 2012 with Reverends Joe Bedgood and Bruce Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the Eastbrook cemetery near Swainsboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday January 9, 2012 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Chris Braswell, Clay Braswell, Sammy Bedgood, David Bedgood, David Thurman and Shawn McTier.
Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of the Swainsboro Fire Department.
