Julia Mae Carswell

Mrs. Julia Mae Carswell, 84, of Swainsboro passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at her residence following an extended illness.

Julia was born November 25, 1939, in Midville to the late Doc Hughes and Lillie Bell Benefield Hughes. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rosie Carswell; sons, Ed Willie Carswell and Joseph Carswell; brothers, Thomas Hughes, Willie Frank Hughes, Doc Hughes, Jr.; sisters, Willie Mae Hughes, Rosa Lee Hughes, Lillie Bell Bynes, and Annie Mae George; grandsons, Kenneth Moore, Jr. and Terrence Hill. During her childhood, she attended school in Burke County. Mrs. Julia attended Swainsboro Technical College and received her certification in childcare in 1987. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and attending family events. She was a devoted member of Willow Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Carswell of Atlanta, John Henry Carswell of Seattle, WA and Dock (Angela) Carswell of Swainsboro; daughters, Betty King of Twin City, Mary (Michael) Oglesby of Canoochee, Brenda Mack of Millen, Annie (London) Hill, Tarra Carswell, and Julia Carswell, all of Swainsboro; sister, Annie Wadley of Swainsboro; 35 grandchildren, 102 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 2, 2024 at Saint Philip Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
