Katie Ruth Johnson

September 28, 1932 — November 7, 2011

Katie R. Johnson, (formerly Nicholson, Nee Webb), 79, passed away on Monday November 7, 2011.

Katie was born in Toombs Co. in South Ga. to Allen and Ida Bell Webb.  After high school she went to Augusta for secretarial school where she met and married Wilbur G. Nicholson, (Nick).  They moved to PA. and had their two children.  He passed away in 1969 and she relocated to GA. to be near her family, and raised her children alone.  Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters; Lillian Hutcheson, Frances Nichols, Nettie Pearl Page, Audrey Lee, Beverly Jones and a brother named Floyd.  She loved reading and getting together with her family at yearly reunions and any day you were welcome to visit her.  She never said no to a friend or relative in need.  She was happiest when she was able to help someone.  Most of all she gave her time to people, whether driving older friends to Doctor appointments, staying with someone after surgery, dog sitting, visiting sick friends all over GA., checking on her friends well being, and she always prayed for everybody.  She was a receptionist for Georgia Power until she retired.  She joined the retired Ambassadors Group and stayed in touch through the years with those friends with monthly lunches and trips.  All who knew her loved her and she loved all of us and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter; Judy Barton of Morrow, son; Scott Nicholson of Morrow, grand daughter; Jessie Barton of Stockbridge, sisters; Faye Galbreath of Emanuel Co. Ga., Mattie Lou Claxton of Savannah.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday November 11, 2011 at Ford-Stewart Funeral Home of Jonesboro and from 12 p.m. till time of service Sunday November 13, 2011 at Chapman Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Bithynia Baptist Church Cemetery.
