Mr. Lamar Rogers, 89, of Kite died Saturday morning, March 22, 2014 at the Emanuel Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Rogers was born in Kite to the late Frank Rogers Sr. and Vanna Jackson Rogers. Mr. Rogers joined the United States Air Force at the age of 18 and served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Senna Rogers; brothers, Frank Rogers, Jr., Stephen Rogers and Earnest Rogers; sister, Mae Bozman. Mr. Rogers lived in Florida until 1994 when he moved back to Kite. He loved fishing, horse racing and gardening.
Survivors include his companion, Nell Way of Swainsboro; daughter, Bonnie (Joe) Durning of Kite; grandchildren; Nicole (Billy) Hicks of Columbus, Holly (Ken) Barber of Woodburry; great granddaughter, Gracie Hicks of Columbus; Special Caregiver, Audrey Lopez of Swainsboro; and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Kite First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, March 24, 2014 with Rev. Burton Dixon officiating. Interment will be in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery near Kite with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday morning, March 24, 2014 at the Kite First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Billy Hicks, Ken Barber, Harold Bozman, John Wilder Page, David Flanders and David Way.
