Larry "Gopher" Gay

Mr. Larry “Gopher” Gay, 69, of Aline passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Gay was born August 11, 1951 in Metter to the late Bill Gay and Lola Lamb Gay.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Gay, Jr., James L. Gay, Cecil Gay; sisters, Mildred Gay, Arlene Grimes.  Mr. Gay enjoyed racing, hunting, fishing and helping others.  He loved his family, especially being a grandpa and being outside working on a project.  Mr. Gay was a member of Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Gay of Aline; son, Tony Gay of Aline; daughters, Ann Marie (Shane) Akridge of Stillmore, Lisa G. Beason, Julie “redheaded step child” White, both of Aline; brothers, Ronnie (Tammy) Gay of Statesboro; sister, Juanita (Thomas) Ivey of Statesboro; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Beason, Dylan Akridge, Faith Akridge, Lola Gay; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 23, 2020 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of  Chapman Funeral Home  with Reverend John Woodcock officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are William Gay, Austin Gay, David “Bubba” Williams, Caleb Akridge, Larry Buddy Hodges, and Timmy “Hardrock” Gay.

Honorary pallbearer is Robert Beason.

In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6 feet rule will be enforced during visitation and service.
