Mr. Lloyd Elmo Portwood, 78, of Savannah died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Candler Hospital in Savannah following an extended illness.
Mr. Portwood was born in Jefferson County and was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Elmo and Mattie E. Green Portwood; a son, Eddie Portwood; sisters, Wylene McVey and Linda Flowers. He served in the United States Air Force in Korea, was a retired Lieutenant with Dougherty County Police Department, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Savannah.
Survivors include daughters, Tamara (Steve) Shuman, Pooler, and Anita (Robbie) Gardner, Milledgeville; sister, Nell Portwood Izzo, Savannah; grandchildren, Melissa Pope, Richmond Hill, Sara (Danny) Watson, Milledgeville, Edwin “Eddie” Portwood Spence, Camilla, and Drew Shuman, Pooler; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held in Swainsboro City Cemetery at 12 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, March 29, with Dr. Steven McVey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Chapman Funeral Home, Swainsboro.
