Mr. Louie Elton Rowland, 95, of Kite, Georgia passed away September 27 at his home.
Mr. Rowland was a lifelong resident of Johnson County. He was born on September 5, 1922 to John Clifton Rowland and Ideen Webb Rowland. He was preceded in death by his sisters Johnnie Rowland and Mary Frances Cartwright, brothers Robert (Bud) Rowland, Sheldon Rowland, Fred Rowland and Herbert Rowland. Mr. Rowland was a member of Kite First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School superintendent for many years. Mr. Rowland was a World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre. He received a purple heart as well as many other distinguished medals. He was retired from the Savannah River Plant and farmed throughout his life.
Mr. Rowland is survived by his wife of 71 years, Geneva Kight Rowland, daughter, Sandra (David) Fields; grandchildren Teri (Michael) Aldrich of Metter, and Chris (Cori) Fields of Wrightsville, great grandchildren; Hunter (Emily) Aldrich, Nick Lawhorn, Lane Aldrich, Ethan Fields, Nathaniel Fields, and Lucas Fields. He was also survived by sisters Genell Rowland Mathis of Columbus, GA and Sara Rowland Watkins (Lewis) of Appling, GA and brothers Henry (Cuba) Rowland of New Ellenton, SC and Will Rowland of Millen; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at the Kite First Baptist Church 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 with Reverend Burton Dixon.
Interment will follow in the Kite City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the church.
Pallbearers are nephews Bill Cartwright, Charles Cartwright, Tony Mathis, Craig Rowland, Glen Rowland, Brad Rowland and Steve Rowland.
