Martha Horton Page

April 28, 1938 — October 19, 2024

Kite

Mrs. Martha Horton Page, 86, of Kite passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Emanuel Medical Center.  She was born on April 28, 1938, in Swainsboro to the late Rube Horton and Hattie Horton Renfroe. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Royce Lee Page, Sr.; daughter, Marsha Veree Page; sister, Bessie D. Chapman; brother, Morgan Horton.

Martha was a lovely, beautiful and blessed mother/mema who was raised and resided in Johnson County in the Kite/Tom community.  She began her work career at Apparel Brands in Wrightsville and maybe this is where her love for making blankets and cherished keepsakes began.  She completed her work career as a bus driver for 20 plus years where she was not just a driver but loved her little passengers and treated them like her own.  After retirement, she enjoyed her time being a fulltime mema and spending every chance she got with family and friends.  Martha spent her free time teaching her beloved grands how to cook Brunswick stew, cornflake candy and divinity and she also enjoyed pickling.  She always allowed them to lick the bowl and whisks.  She did not let her age slow her down.  Martha was adventurous, sweet, old-fashioned, and possessed a wealth of knowledge.

When Martha decided to slow it down a beat, she would be camped out in her recliner with a blanket over her legs that she most likely made.  She would kick back and play on her tablet, watch the bold and the beautiful, the young and the restless, Alaskan bush people and swamp people.  She spent her Sundays as a member of Minton Chapel Advent Christian Church in Kite where she was also a member of the WH&FMS with having a title for years as the treasurer.  Thursday was for bingo and the rest of her time consisted of crocheting and talking to anyone about anything that came up.  Martha’s most recent project was a large rose quilt that is just as beautiful as her heart.  She wanted to frame this special quilt before she got sick, but it didn’t ever happen so this will be done at a later date in her memory.  She gained the title of mema in 1991 and that is who she will always be to her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Monica Ann Cox (Ray) of Swainsboro; sons, Royce Lee Page, Jr. (Gloria), John Ruben Page (Darlene), Tracy Lynn Page all of Kite; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Minton Chapel Advent Christian Church with Reverends Barry Mixon and Sammy Hall officiating and Reverend Dale Wilkerson officiating committal service.
