Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Tyson Flanders, 93, of Swainsboro died Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2013 at the Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro.
Mrs. Flanders was born in Emanuel County, to the late Joe T. Tyson and Curlie Powell Tyson. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Johnnie Macon Flanders; son, Doyle Aaron Flanders; daughters, Grace Marie Jones and Jeanette Flanders; sister, Eva Irine Nobles; brothers, J. C. Tyson, James Wylie Tyson, Edward Robert Tyson, William Tyson, George Lenward Tyson.
Mrs. Flanders was a life long resident of Emanuel County and a homemaker. She was the oldest member of the Swainsboro Church of God for nearly 60 years.
Survivors include her sons, Johnny Ray (Lou) Flanders of Bath S.C., Harvey Lamar Flanders of Lincolnton, Charles Dewey (Martha) Flanders of Swainsboro, Richard Eugene (Sandra) Flanders of Upatoi; daughters, Mary Virginia Canady and Nancy Faye Claxton both of Swainsboro; brothers, Herbert Preston (Sadie) Tyson and Earnest Lee (Elizabeth) Tyson both of Dublin; sisters, Gladys Page of Swainsboro and Alma Joyce McDonald of Soperton; 25 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, November 5, 2013 with Reverends Jason Bryant and David Flanders officiating. Burial will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. Harvard Hudson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Keith Dyches, Lamar Flanders, Mitchell Henry, Brian Flanders, Travis Claxton, Rocky McKenzie and Calvin Jones.
