Mrs. Melba Henry Barnes, 70, of Swainsboro died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Adrian. She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie Henry and Fara Mae Peebles Henry Fulmer; husband, Jack Barnes; sister, Louetta Kersey; brothers, Hugh Henry, Kenneth Henry, N.C. (Sammy) Henry, Lake Henry, Ron Henry and Don Henry.
Mrs. Barnes had a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught Pre-K and Kindergarten for 30 years in the Emanuel County and Tattnall County schools. After retiring, students kept calling her back to teach. Mrs. Barnes loved her grandchildren, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Tammy (Sam) Stewart of Richmond Hill; son, Travis (Anne) Todd of Stillmore; sisters, Ruth Hutcheson of Norristown and Merle Brock of Swainsboro; 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Hebron Baptist Church at 3 o’clock Thursday, afternoon October 11, with Reverend Irvin Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in the Lamb Cemetery near Swainsboro.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the church.
Pallbearers will be Tal Henry, Jamie Henry, Mike Henry, Jessie Henry, Jim Quattlebaum and Craig Brock.
