Mrs. Merita B. “Rita” Wilkerson, 63, of Swainsboro died Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2015 at the Emanuel Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born in Swainsboro to the late Buford Barber and Lola Bell Meeks Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry F. Wilkerson; infant son, Shannon Wilkerson; sister, Dorothy Nell Taylor. Mrs. Wilkerson was a life long resident of Swainsboro. She loved playing cards, yahtzee, watching wrestling and fishing. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Tracie (Jay) Hughes of Swainsboro; brother, David Johnson of Dublin; sisters, Margie Wilkerson, Rachel (Tommy) Hadden both of Fargo, Wanda (Patrick) Nastase of Charleston, Linda Atkins, Janet (Ben) Byrum both of Dublin; grandchildren, Cameron (Kierstin) McVey of Pooler, Kayleigh McVey of Swainsboro, Kevin (Marie) Hughes of Swainsboro, Evin Hughes of Cobbtown and Joseph Hughes of Twin City; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 with Rev. Joe Bedgood officiating. Interment will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery near Soperton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening, May 2, 2015 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Cameron McVey, Tommy Hadden, Darrell Thomas, Henry Wilkerson, Randy Wilkerson and Tim Wilkerson.
