Mr. Michael V. Caputo, Jr., 84, of Swainsboro passed away, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on October 5, 1940, in Montclair, NJ to the late Michael P. Caputo, Sr. and Mary Bruno Caputo. Mr. Caputo was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Franklin Caputo and Gabriel Caputo.
He graduated from Seton Hall Prep & Seton Hall College. Mr. Caputo owned his own salvage yard for many, many years which he started in the 70’s. His sons took over in the 80’s and are still working the business. He was very involved with the Free Masons and the Shriners. Mr. Caputo loved camping and fishing with his sons. He was an exceptional poem writer. He wrote birthday poems for everyone in his family. Most poems roasted and toasted you! His sons referred to him as Papa Smurf. He’s the BIG TUNA according to his Masonic friends in New Jersey. Mr. Caputo was an avid reader and was always learning and absorbing information. He loved to do crossword puzzles and other various word games. His family was the most important thing to him. He even made a Caputo Family Shrine in his house with old photos and trinkets from past and present. His grandchildren meant the world to him. He and Sue were fortunate to have watched them when they were very young.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susanne R. Caputo of Swainsboro; sons, Michael Caputo (Jill) of Toms River, NJ, Matthew Caputo (Anne Marie) of Forked River, NJ, Christopher Caputo (Kerri) of Lanoka Harbor, NJ; daughters, Karen Ziemian of Bayville, NJ, Patricia Douthat of East Barnard, TX; brother Robert Caputo (Linda) of East Hanover, NJ; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters and many friends.
Funeral Services will be in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Mark Hardin officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Interment will be at Eastbrook Cemetery and Mausoleum with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers will be Michael Caputo, Matthew Caputo, Irvin Cox, John Bridges, Vince Scott and Matt Bennett.
