Mike "Papa" Carter

Mr. Mike “Papa” Carter, 72, of Swainsboro passed away  Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Fairview Park Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Carter was born August 1, 1946 in Milford, Va. to the late Taylor James Carter Sr. He was preceded in death by his father; grandmother, Eva Bell Carter; wife, Patricia Carter; son, Michael Wayne Carter Jr.; son-in-law, Roy Reese Jr. He moved to Swainsboro in 1969 to work at Keller Industries. Mr. Carter loved cooking, spending time with family, and he loved unconditionally. He was the owner and operator of Carter’s Drywall for 30 years and he worked with Ogburn Hardware. Mr. Carter was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Betty Jo Reese (Ben Brewer) of Adrian; brothers, Jimmy (Joyce) Carter of Virginia; Rodney Carter of Virginia; Steve Carter of Virginia; sisters, Faye (David) Garza of Virginia; Tammy Thomas of Virginia; grandchildren, Wes (Kristie) Johnson of Adrian; Wade Reese of Adrian; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Johnson; Kaden Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 12 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating.

Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home 11 a.m. until time of service.
