Mildred Sue Canady passed peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at
Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia, following an extended illness and complications from
COVID-19.
Mildred Sue Williamson was born April 14, 1952, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to the late William Dover
Williamson and the late Mildred Sherrod Williamson. Sue was a graduate of Grand Blanc High
School in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Swainsboro Technical College in Swainsboro, Georgia. After
various jobs in South Carolina, Michigan, and Georgia, she found her calling in the classroom. Sue
spent 31 years with Emanuel County Schools as a para-professional in Kindergarten at Swainsboro
Primary School, in Pre-K at Swainsboro Pre-K and Twin City Elementary School, and again in
Kindergarten at Twin City Elementary School until her retirement in 2019. She also enjoyed 17 years
driving a school bus, retiring in 2021. She joined the team at Emanuel Counseling Services in
Swainsboro, Georgia, after she retired from the classroom.
Sue was a deeply devoted mother and wife, and she cherished time spent with her family and
friends. She and her sisters made frequent trips between Michigan and Georgia visiting each other
and elsewhere visiting other family and friends. She also loved to fish, especially in the Ogeechee
River and at Clarks Hill Lake.
Sue is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bobby Canady of Midville, Georgia; son Jay Canady of
Charleston, South Carolina; son Danny Haycraft of Milton, Florida; stepson Robbie Canady (Tyra) of
Covington, Georgia; stepdaughter Emily Long of Soperton, Georgia; sister Helen Irby of Grand
Blanc, Michigan; sister Martha Sumner of Grand Blanc, Michigan; and brother Benny Williamson of
Midville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sue is predeceased by her parents; brother William Dover Williamson, II of Vidalia, Georgia; brother
Mark Williamson of Louisville, Georgia; brother-in-law Bill Irby of Grand Blanc, Michigan; sister-in-law
Melvadean Williamson of Vidalia, Georgia; sister-in-law Helen Williamson of Midville, Georgia;
nephew BJ Williamson of Aiken, South Carolina; and nephew Andrew Irby of Hickory, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends at Chapman Funeral Home in Swainsboro, Georgia on Sunday,
February 13, 2022, from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 14, 2022, at Mount Olivet Baptist
Church in Garfield, Georgia. The Rev. Randy Adams and Rev. David Donnan officiating.
Interment will be private. A luncheon will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro, Georgia, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Community Hospice of Vidalia, Saint Jude
Children’s Research Hospital, or The Human Rights Campaign.
