Mrs. Myrtle R. Page Spence, 74, of Swainsboro died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Emanuel County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Spence was born in Emanuel County, to the late George Page and Mary Lee Bush Page. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Luther Spence and grandchildren, Justin and Olivia Hurst.
Mrs. Spence was a life long resident of Emanuel County and a homemaker. She was a member of the Summertown Baptist Church for 12 years.
Mrs. Spence was a former employee of Tinkerbell Day Care Center, where she worked in the infant room and loved many children while their mothers and fathers worked during the day. She referred to these children as “my babies” when she spoke of them. Mrs. Spence was also a great lover of flowers and could make most anything grow. Her granddaughter tells of a Gerbera daisy that was dead that her grandmother somehow loved back to life, and the story is true. She had a great love for her family and friends but, most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior. She looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones when she walked through the pearly gates of Heaven. She was certain of her faith and of her love for family, and that love was returned a hundred-fold. She was known to all as "Granny."
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Sonny) Hurst of Midville; granddaughter, Katie (James) Clay of Midville; children of her heart, Arlene Collins of Swainsboro and Timmy (Jewel) Collins of Nunez; brothers, Wayne (Catherine) Page of Metter, Ralph (Sue) Page of Adrian, James (Mary) Page of Cumming, Stevie (Janet) Page of Swainsboro and Mack (Mary) Page of Cumming; sisters, Bessie Branson of Keysville, Lela Spence of Swainsboro, Shelba (Eugene) Wilkes of Swainsboro, Della Holt of Virginia, Dawn Larkin of Swainsboro and Lavon Woods of Swainsboro; several nieces and nephews; her silky terrier, Sophie.
