Mr. Oliver “Ray” Coleman, 86, of Swainsboro passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Memorial Health Meadows in Vidalia. He was born July 22, 1939, in Soperton to the late Aster Coleman and Inez Collins Coleman. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, James Coleman; sister, Geraldine Dowd.
He proudly served in the United States Marines and later in the United States Navy, dedicating years of his life to protecting freedom. His courage carried him through the Vietnam War, where he stood alongside fellow servicemen in one of history’s most challenging conflicts.
Beyond his military service, he will be remembered for his kindness, his willingness to lend a hand, and the countless lives he touched with his compassion. His legacy of selflessness and honor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sally W. Coleman of Swainsboro: son, Allen Scott “Buzz” Hill, III; daughters, Raeanna Coleman (Cindy), Elizabeth Bell (Carlo), Terri Smith (Robert); stepsons, Sidney Jordan (Marsha) and Philip Jordan; stepdaughter, Holly Stark (Jeff); sister, Ramona Ross; brother, Bobby Strickland.
Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Swainsboro City Cemetery with Evangelist Jeff Stark officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.
