Mr. Robert Leon “Bob” McKay, 88, of Swainsboro died Friday night, December 13, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia.
Mr. McKay was born in Paden City, West Virginia to the late Victor McKay and Nellie Harris Schlefstein. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy McKay; sister, Joyce Crawford; brothers, Joseph McGee, Wayne McGee and Jimmy McGee. Mr. McKay served in the United States Navy. He was an engineer with Lockheed and Republic Aviation before moving to Swainsboro in 1989. After moving to Swainsboro, Mr. McKay went to work with Custom Furniture and Floor Covering in Swainsboro until he retired. Mr. McKay loved fishing and hunting. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Swainsboro.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Kristin McKay of Swainsboro; daughters, Sarah Jane McKay of Swainsboro, Leah McKay of Kentucky, Kim Dortch of Florida, Pam Mendoza Shipman (Barry) of South Carolina and Mary Sue Currie of Missouri; sons, J. R. McKay (Carol) of South Carolina and Mike McKay of Boston; sister, Judy Ryan (Bob) of Maryland; aunt Vera Bowen of West Virginia; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Calvary United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 with Rev. Nick Hazelton officiating. Mr. McKay will Lie in State one hour prior to service. Interment will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery near Swaisnboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, December 15, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Sonny Hurst, Asa Garrett, Johnny Mills, Moses Shumake, Wade Bedingfield and Kevin Gay
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Annie B. Hayes Sunday School Class.
