Mrs. Ruby Rachel Fields, 94, of Swainsboro died Sunday afternoon, February 12, 2012 at the Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro following an extended illness.
Mrs. Fields was born in Kite, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents Mack Clinton and Mary Elizabeth Meeks Shealy; husband of 23 years Bertie James Fields; brother, Roger Shealey; daughter-in-law, Remelle Fields.
Mrs. Fields was a Baptist and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. She lived numerous years in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she retired as a waitress.
Relocating back to Swainsboro, Gran truly enjoyed taking great pleasure by spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, As a homemaker, Gran was an amazing cook who enjoyed delighting family and friends with her favorite home-style cooking and exceptional cakes and deserts. As a seamstress, she also took pleasure in sewing her grandchildren various outfits for special occasions. She was also gifted in charming everyone by hand crafting marvelous decorations for Christmas, Easter and birthdays.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmie Fields of Dawsonville, Pepper (Barbara) Fields of Swainsboro; daughter, Mary V. “Ginger” Purcell of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Lisa Fields of Mortenson, MD, Michael (Debbie) Fields of Dawsonville, Brian (Christy) Purcell of Warner Robins, Todd (Mandi) Purcell of Midville, Robert (Bonnie) Fields of Bethlehem, PA, Christine Fields (Ron) Waters of Sandersville; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and 2 nieces.
Funeral services will be held at Southside Baptist Church at 11 o’clock Wednesday, morning February 15, 2012 with Reverends Earl Warnock and Herschel Clements officiating. Mrs. Fields will Lie in State one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday February 14, 2012 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Verlyn Arrington, Robert Henry, Kevin Chapman, Ron Waters, Alton Henry, and Billy Vinson.
