Mr. Sammie Lee Gibbons, 55, of Canoochee passed away Sunday night, September 18, 2016 at Emanuel Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Gibbons was born October 4, 1960 in Augusta, Ga. to the late Sammie Gibbons, Jr. and Johnnie Mae Walden. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Gibbons worked twenty years with Therma King. He was a member of the Canoochee Brotherhood Club, and the Union Chapel Male Chorus Choir. Mr Gibbons loved fishing, nascar racing, and all sports. He had been a member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church for fifteen years where he served as an Usher.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Connie Gibbons of Canoochee; daughters, Andi Gibbons of Savannah, Asia Gibbons of Canoochee; sons, Jonathan Gibbons of Augusta, Antonio (Jessica) Gibbons of Louisville, and Quatell Gibbons of Wadley sisters, Rhonda Bennett of Wadley, Shuntae Gibbons of Bartow, Arlene Turner of Wadley; grandchildren, Antonio Gibbons, Jr.,Avery Gibbons, Ja’Layia Gibbons, Jonathan Gibbons, Jr., Riley Cooper; special aunt, Gwendolyn (Larry) Clark of Canoochee; uncles, Barney Walden of Augusta, and Edward Walden of Jacksonville, FL.; aunt, Annette (Will) Henry of Wadley; great niece, Kinsley Clark; great nephews, Caleb Pinkston, and Aycen Fleming; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Union Chapel Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, September 23, 2016 with Reverends K.E. McNeal and Raymond Harrison officiating. Mr. Gibbons will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Garfield.
There will be a walk in viewing from 12 to 7 p.m. Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Canoochee Brotherhood Club.
Honorary Pallbearers are Union Chapel Male Chorus Choir.
