Suzanne F. Powers, of Midville, Georgia, passed away peacefully June 18, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born in Hinesville, Georgia, to Cecil and Fannie Futch and was raised in Pelham, graduating from Pelham High School in 1962 before attending Norman Park College.
Her professional life began as a switchboard operator with Southern Bell in Thomasville, Georgia. A year later she transferred to bigger switchboards and bigger adventures in Atlanta. In 1966, she began what would become a distinguished career at Crawford W. Long Hospital. Through dedication, hard work, and remarkable organizational skills, she rose to Department Director of Outpatient Billing, an accomplishment she delighted in sharing stories about.
In 1989, she accepted a position with Fulghum Industries in Wadley and later became Executive Assistant to the President. It was there, coincidentally, where she met the true love of her life, Robert H. Powers, Jr.
Suzanne moved to Augusta with Fulghum Fibres, Inc. and retired after many years of faithful service. She was then able to permanently join Rob at Powers Place beside the pond where she enjoyed feeding the songbirds, hummingbirds, and squirrels. Making Midville her new home, Suzanne became active at Midville Methodist Church, where she made many friends and helped serve the local community.
If you asked her friends and family what first comes to mind when they think of her, they would remember the little things that made her unmistakably Suzanne - her sharp wit, honesty, and humor.
Suzanne never missed cheering on her beloved Atlanta Braves and was very vocal if their games were not shown on the major networks. She enjoyed criticizing the calls of umpires as if she were sitting behind home plate and enthusiastically celebrated every Braves win. Suzanne had a sweet tooth and rarely ever turned down a pineapple milkshake from Dairy Queen or a baked treat. Baking was an expression of love for her, and if you were lucky enough to be celebrated with one of her cream cheese pound cakes, you knew you were a favorite. She also enjoyed baking snickerdoodle cookies with her granddaughters. She could happily spend an afternoon watching Judge Judy, convinced that a little common sense could solve any problem. At home, Winston, her faithful dog, and Oscar, her cherished porch cat, were never far from her side. Above all, Suzanne loved her family deeply. It brought her immense joy to share updates and anecdotes about the lives of her daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, Rob H. Powers, Jr.; her daughter, Kimi Pichardo and granddaughters Sophia and Seidy; her step-children Jessica Powers Cline (Justin); Robert Hill Powers, III (Jessica) and granddaughters Hendrix and Willa; granddaughter Britney German (Nick) and great-granddaughters Addy and Ella; her sister, Cecelia F. Dawson (Stan); nephew Joshua C. Dawson (Jennifer) and great niece, Addy Olivia; extended family and dear friends who will forever miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Futch and Fannie Mae Lawson Futch, and her beloved son, Thomas Christopher McMaugh.
As family and friends gather to remember her, perhaps they'll offer their favorite Suzanne witticism or story about her charismatic character. Although she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she loved so fiercely, and the countless memories that will continue to bring smiles for generations to come.
A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 2pm at Midville Methodist Church with visitation following in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Suzanne’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Midville Methodist Church.
