Mr. Verlon Eugene McNeely, 78, of Kite passed away Sunday morning, January 17, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital Augusta following an extended illness.
Mr. McNeely was born January 16, 1938 in Riddleville, Ga. to the late Sam McNeely and Martha Johnson McNeely. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary McNeely, and Vernon McNeely; sister, Betty Miller; nephew, William Josey, Jr. Mr. McNeely played three seasons for the New York Jets in the sixties, playing with the great Joe Namath. He loved hunting, fishing, and had been a quail guide for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Irby McNeely of Kite; sons, Michael (Kristi) McNeely of Kite, Dr. Michael (Nicole) Anglin of Birmingham, Al.; grandchildren, Gina Heuett, Brianna Heuett, and Coralee McNeely all of Kite, Meagan Anglin, and Abby Anglin both of Birmingham, Al.; sisters, Brenda (Fay) Hadden of Louisville, Francis (William) Josey, and Janice (Claude) Thompson both of Riddleville; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Kite Church of God 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 2016 with Reverends Allen Meeks and Daniel Porter officiating.
Interment will be in the Kite City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of service Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 2016 at Kite Church of God.
Pallbearers are Tommy “Sonny” Norris, Johnny “Hambone” Crosby, Nick Ivey, Trojan Harrison, Bryson Rowland, and Forest Lee Davis.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Claxton, Howard Scarboro, John Murray, Lester Sheppard, David Hobbs, and Ray Walden.
