Mrs. Verna Smith Gallimore, 89, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at Emanuel County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gallimore was born August 19, 1933, in Stow, OH to Harlan Otis Smith and Mable Violette Alexander Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lonnie Gallimore; son, Clayton Otis Sams; grandsons, Brandon Sams, Christopher Pennewell; brother, Sonny Jim Smith; sisters, Betty Davis, Gloria Taliferro, June Taliaferro, Peg Lambles, and Florence Stalnaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Sunday school teacher, mentor, and caregiver. She was always there when someone needed her, and she took care of the elderly when they couldn’t afford to pay her much. In her life, she lived in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and finally in Georgia. She was a pillar of strength in every church in every state she lived. People always depended on her as a prayer warrior, and she never denied anyone her time. Once she got to Georgia, her failing health and increased medical needs required her to reside at a nursing home, where she was also a prayer warrior and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed by friends and family, but Heaven has gained a treasure.
She is survived by her sons, Steven W. Sams (Brenda) of Dublin, VA, Harry Sams of Hendersonville, TN, Tim Sams of Pulaski, VA; daughter, Sherry McCurdy (James) of Swainsboro; sister, Violette Kinney of Andersonville, SC; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski, VA, followed by interment at Thornspring United Methodist Church in Thornspring, VA.
