Mr. Walter Jackson “Jack” Moore, Jr, 85, of Nunez died Friday morning, August 8, 2014 at the Emanuel Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Moore was born April 7, 1929 in Emanuel County to the late Walter Jackson Moore, Sr. and Marie Murphy Moore.  He graduated from Swainsboro High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College and the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture education.  Mr. Moore began his teaching career in the Veteran Farmer program in Kite, GA.  His career was interrupted as he was called into active military service for the U. S. Army during the Korean War.  Upon his return home, he taught agriculture education in Hoboken and Adrian GA before becoming a District II Area Livestock consultant for the State of Georgia.  Mr. Moore taught courses to over 5000 young adults and helped many high school Futre Farmers of America improve their livestock management practices.  Mr. Moore was inducted into the Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2006.  He was a member of the Nunez Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school director, Sunday school teacher and treasurer.  Mr. Moore also served on the Emanuel County Hospital board and past member of the local Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Millie Moore of Nunez; son, Walter Timothy “Tim” Moore of Appling; daughter, Nancy (Barry) Mauldin of Appling; sister, Betty Moore of Augusta; grandchildren, Cody Moore, Abby Mauldin, Emily Mauldin, Kelsey Mauldin all of Appling; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Nunez Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, August 10, 2014 with Reverends Mark Sweat and Lee Gaston officiating.  Mr. Moore will Lie in State one hour prior to service.  Interment will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery near Swainsboro with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening, August 9, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Tim Moore, Cody Moore, Courtney Terwilliger, Lige Moore, Gary Coleman, Joe Bradford, Harold Milligan and Artis Williams.

In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Jack Moore to the Nunez Baptist Church, P. O. Box 96, Nunez GA 30448
