William "Lum" Lumley

July 23, 1944 — October 21, 2022

Wrightsville

Mr. William “Lum” Lumley, 78, of Wrightsville passed away Friday, October 21, 2022, at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Mr. Lumley was born July 23, 1944, in Norristown to Lewis Lumley and Ruby Youmans Lumley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Luke Lumley; and sister, Laura Bracewell.

William was a big man with an even bigger heart. He was “William” to Sara, “Poppa” to Cole, Alafair, and Lani, “Daddy” to Paul and Julie, and “Lum” to many, many Georgia Power friends and colleagues. “Lum” spent 37 years of his life helping to keep families in homes that were full of light and comfort. After hurricanes, ice storms, and other natural disasters, he was one of the men on the front lines bringing electricity back to communities.  William’s spirit of service was still active even after his retirement. One of his greatest joys in life was extending a helping hand to friends and neighbors if they were in need. He gave freely of his time and his talents whenever he had the opportunity to do so. He was active in the First Baptist Church Brotherhood ministry and his Sunday School class. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Mr. Lumley served in the U. S. National Guard. He was a member of Emanuel County Sportsman Club and the Johnson County Young Farmers. He retired from Georgia Power after 37 years. Mr. Lumley was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sara Lumley of Wrightsville; son, Paul Lumley (Leah) of Wrightsville; daughter, Julie Frix (Brandon) of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Cole Ducker, Alafair Frix, Leilani Collins; sister, Lena Veal of Dublin; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2022, at Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Reverends Casey Shaw and Matthew Jarrell officiating.

Interment will follow in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2022, at Swainsboro First Baptist Church.
