Mrs. Belle Tatum, 89, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, September 19, 2022, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tatum was born February 1, 1933, in Swainsboro to Sarah Hall. She was preceded in death by her mother and sister. She was a Gideon Auxiliary and a member of Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Tatum was a lifelong learner. She attended Duke University, where she studied the new field of medical technology. She went on to work in a hospital laboratory in Atlanta, where she met her future husband. Mrs. Tatum was kind and always had something nice to say about everyone she met. She was a generous woman and a giving mother, who would come to help any of her children – whether they were close by or across the world in London or Indonesia. Mrs. Tatum and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world and in their later years, had a handicap accessible RV and camped all over the United States.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Doyle Tatum of Swainsboro; sons, Philip Tatum of Swainsboro, Bill Tatum (April) of Rutherfordton, NC; daughters, Michelle Stanford (T. K.) of Gatlinburg, TN, Elizabeth Black and Emily Tatum, both of Swainsboro; 15 grandchildren, 3 greatgrandchildren, several other family members, and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Cail Pressey officiating.
Interment will follow in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Tatum’s grandsons.
