Brenda (Rigdon) Cannady

Mrs. Brenda Rigdon Cannady, 77, of Swainsboro passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Ogeechee Area Hospice, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Brenda was born March 8, 1946, in Metter, to Fred Rigdon and Juanita Brantley Rigdon.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerrell Cannady; brother, Freddie Rigdon and sister, Kay Kirkland. 

Brenda had a thoughtful and gentle presence that masked her strong commitment to do the right thing and her determined spirit to see it through.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a loyal friend.  She often sacrificed her own wants and needs for those she loved and at times for those who may have never known of her.  True to her selfless nature, she battled an illness for many years with a quiet resolve, never once complaining of her struggles. 

Brenda was an excellent seamstress and used this gift to make many beautiful dresses for her daughters.  Baking and cooking were also gifts that she enjoyed sharing with others.  She possessed a green thumb and was quite proud of being able to root most any type of plant.  Along with Jerrell, her husband of 53 years, she enjoyed working in their yard and growing vegetables to share with neighbors and friends.  Later in life, it was her joy to spend time with her kids and grandkids playing games and putting puzzles together.  She had a smile that warmed your heart and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Cannady Davis (Todd) of Evans and Melisa Cannady Hendrix (Brian) of Nevils; sister, Carolyn Collins of Guyton; grandchildren, Ansleigh Davis, Bentley Hendrix, Jake Davis and Alivia Hendrix; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Collins and Mr. Rob Gray officiating.

Interment will follow in Eastbrook Cemetary.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Pallbearers are Steve Collins, David Kirkland, Bryon Kirkland, Paul Cannady, Gene Cannady, Dale Cannady, Craig Cannady, Mac Cannady, and Ron Cannady.

In leu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo Street Statesboro, GA 30458.
