Mrs. Debra Purvis Barber, 64, of East Dublin passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Barber was born December 16, 1957, in Swainsboro to the late Sam Purvis and Carolyn Abney Purvis. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janet Slusher. The younger part of her life, was spent growing up in Milledgeville and Wadley, GA. The oldest of three she was often left in charge of her sister Janet and brother Paul. Mrs. Barber met her lifelong companion Greg Barber as a young adult at which they were married March 10, 1983. Together they’ve raised two children Jonathan and Candy. Mrs Barber started her early carrier working alongside her mother in the shirt factory. The Barber’s decided to reside and make their lifelong residence in Dublin, GA. Mrs. Barber began working in convenience store management until 2006 when she became disabled due to several medical conditions. Debra Barber was known as the caretaker of her family. In 2010, her baby sister passed away due to cancer leaving behind younger children. Mrs Barber stepped in to fulfill a void and make sure that the family was taken care of. She was the laugh of any party crowd always having a joke. She loved to tell stories about racing better than her husband. She was an avid bingo player, loved to go to yard sales, three card poker player and wheel of fortune at any casino. Most importantly she loved people.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Barber of East Dublin; daughters, Candy Carroll (Paul), Hayley Palmer both of East Dublin; son, Jonathan Barber (Ashley) of East Dublin; brother, Paul (Debra) Purvis of Wadley; grandchildren, Garrett Barber, Raleigh Carroll, Rhyland Carroll, Justice Carroll; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Bedgood officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rich Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Billy Cavanah, Dilion Cowart, Josh Williams, Charles Purvis, Will Purvis, and Tyler Davis.
