Mr. Delmer Stroud, 89, of Dellwood passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Stroud was born in Dellwood on November 19, 1931 to the late Sidney L. Stroud and Tesse Lee Whitehead Stroud. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy Stroud, Ray Stroud, Rufus Stroud, Ralph Stroud, Arthur Stroud; sisters, Ruth Padgett and Pearl Stroud. Mr. Stroud was co-owner of Stroud Wholesale. He served two years in the U.S. Army, though he preferred no special recognition be made of it. He explained that he served as required and was honored to do so, “but the folks that fought wars and sacrificed lives and limbs …they are the real heroes, not me.” He enjoyed sports and was an Atlanta Braves fan. Stroud family gatherings often included a game of corncob baseball or corncob golf. He coached softball teams for a period of time with his brother Roy. He was always good with animals and they loved him. Mr. Stroud was a prankster, good rabbit hunter and musician. He taught himself to play the piano and guitar. Mr. Stroud was of the Christian Faith.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Frances M. Stroud of Dellwood; daughters, Linda Stroud of Dellwood and Becki Stroud of Clarks Hill, SC. and many friends.
Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Louis Pearce officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. February 13, 2021 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Thompson, Roy Lin Stroud, Charles Stroud, Ronnie Portwood, Andy Durden, Lonnie Portwood, Harvey Lee Padgett, and Donnie Garrett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Betty Gambrell Animal Shelter 343 Market Street Swainsboro, GA 30401.
In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6 feet rule will be enforced during visitation and service.
