On May 27, 2019 Jesus called His Beloved daughter Gwen to be with Him. She loved her Lord and Savior, her family, her many friends, numerous patients, and her church: The Sanctuary in Vidalia. This precious petite lady’s beautiful, radiant countenance, sparkling eyes, and attentive ears blessed everyone who had the JOY of being in her presence. She epitomized many of her favorite Scriptures, especially: “he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25) “I am my brother’s keeper.” (Genesis 4:9) “Whatsoever things are pure and lovely, dwell on these things.” (Philippians 4:8); “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). She never met a stranger and without fail made everyone in her presence feel like he was the most important person in the world! She was VIBRANT and valiantly fought the good fight! She was a vocalist and thoroughly enjoyed bird watching.
She was born in Dallas, Texas and earned her BS in English Literature and had minors in Art and Psychology from La Sierra College in Riverside, CA and her M.D. from University Automa in Guadalajara, Mexico. She was the first private psychiatrist to have an office in Swainsboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Essie and Vernice Moddrell; her brother, Murel Moddrell, her beloved husband, Bob Herz, two nephews, John Moddrell and James Michael "Jimbo " Moddrell. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Gary (Bonnie) Moddrell; nephew, Micah (Diana) Moddrell; nieces, Julie (Josh) Longanacre, Shelly Bell, Tracy Dolezad, Kayla Ward; great-nephews, Johne Moddrell, Isaac Moddrell, Josh Roe, Clint Longanacre, Colby Longanacre; great-nieces, Chloe Moddrell, Lacy Roe, Angelique Roe and many friends.
Her life will be celebrated at the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home on June 7, 2019 at 6:00 PM with Pastor Sherry Damron officiating.
Gwen’s family and friends very much appreciate Solace Hospice’s (Vidalia, GA) professional and loving care and ministry, which allowed her to peacefully transition from her home/sanctuary to Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, Gwen requested that contributions be made to Sherry Damron Ministries, P.O. Box 2555, Vidalia, GA 30475. Website - SherryDamron.org
