Eugene T. "Gene" Arrington

Mr. Eugene T. “Gene” Arrington, 75, of Swainsboro died Monday, December 20, 2010 at his residence after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Mr. Arrington was a native of Emanuel County and was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Ina Belle Frankle Arrington and a brother, Robert L. Arrington. He served 6 years in the United States Army stationed in Germany in the Military Police Corps where he received the Army Occupational Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he served with the Coca Beach, Florida Police Department and briefly worked as a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Mr. Arrington retired with the rank of Lieutenant from the Georgia State Patrol in 1990 after 34 years of service. During his time with the patrol, he served numerous counties and was commander of Post 19. He was recognized as Patrolman of the year, Law Enforcement Officer of the year, Safe Driver of the year, and received the Purple Heart Award for injuries sustained in the line of duty in Emanuel County. He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church for over 20 years where, until his illness, he taught the Adult 1 Sunday School Class and served as an Usher. An avid outdoorsman, Gene was known throughout the East-Central area of Georgia for his expertise in training hunting dogs. His favorite pastime was being in the woods with his dogs.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Wanda J. McDaniel Arrington; sons, Phillip Arrington and Michael Hutcheson both of Atlanta; daughters, Gina (Jeff) Baker, Gibson, Jill Graham, Swainsboro, and Chris (Darren) Cribbs, Stiltson; grandchildren, Tiffany Sliester, Elizabeth Baker, Wesley Cox, Jessica Cox Newsome, Clay, Ben, and Cody Caraway, Vanessa Graham, Drake Cribbs and Hunter Cribbs; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marion Arrington, Hebzabah, Darlene Randolph, Kings Port, TN, and Jo Franklin, Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law, Jack (Jean) McDaniel, Etowah, TN; nephew, Kenneth Arrington, Augusta; special friends of Mr. Arrington, Alton Henry and Hugh Foskey.
Services will be held in Southside Baptist Church at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, December 23, with Pastor Jack Lyons, Rev. Herschel Clements, Rev. Earl Warnock, and Col. Bill Hitchens officiating. Burial will be in Lamb’s Chapel Cemetery, Cross Green with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 22 at Chapman Funeral Home and may be reached at the family residence, 570 Wadley Coleman Lake Rd. Swainsboro, Georgia 30401.
Pallbearers will be the Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be retired and active members of the Georgia State Patrol and members of the Southside Baptist Church Adult 1 Sunday School Class.
