Evelyn (Thompson) Beckham

Mrs. Evelyn Thompson Beckham, 77, of Swainsboro passed away Friday, February 25, 2022, at Emanuel County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Beckham was born June 8, 1944, in Covena to Guyton Thompson and Callie Wilkes Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James E. Beckham; brothers, Hubert Thompson, Billy Thompson, Guyton Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Helen Paris, Sara Ellen Durden, Sara Love, Clyde Canady, Marveline Younkers. Mrs. Beckham was the youngest daughter of 10 children. As a teenager, she would go dancing as often as she could, and she enjoyed dancing well into her senior years. She married the love of her life, James, on March 28, 1964, and the couple welcomed their only child, Brian, a year later. During James’s 20+ years in the US Army, they traveled extensively. Of all the places they were stationed, Germany was one of her favorites. During the 3 years spent there, she made many friends and wonderful memories. She spoke often of wanting to return. She loved her family with all of her heart and looked forward to the yearly family reunions and many cookouts over the years. Her only granddaughter, Callie, stole her heart. After James retired, they eventually settled in Wrightsville. She worked for BC Moore’s in Swainsboro until retirement. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, and took great pride in her yard and worked diligently at it. She lived a wonderful, fulfilling life.

Survivors include her son, James Brian Beckham (Regina) of Statesboro; sister, Dessie Hostilo of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Callie Breanna Beckham; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Thompson and Gail Thompson, both of Nunez; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Roger Holley officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Thompson, Lynn Thompson, Keith Thompson, Tim Thompson, Justin Thompson, and Greg Riner.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Joey Selph, Jamie Canady, and Mark Canady.
