Greg Newsome

Mr. Greg Newsome, 74, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, January 10, 2022, at South GA Medical Center in Valdosta following an extended illness.

Mr. Newsome was born April 12, 1947, in Emanuel County to Walter Lee Newsome and Nell Scott Hackle. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ellen Newsome; brother, Lonzell Newsome. Prior to retirement, Mr. Newsome was senior owner of S&N Auto Parts. He was a member of the Emanuel County Sportsman’s Club, past President of the Swainsboro Shrine Club, past member of the Swainsboro Shrine Club Clown Unit, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Newsome enjoyed charity events. He was an avid racecar driver, driving Limited Sportsman and Sportsman Class dirt track and held the dirt track record in Dublin for many years. Mr. Newsome loved fish fries, cookouts, camping and fishing, George Jones music, sales, and meeting new people. Most of all if he knew you, he loved you.  He was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sonia Newsome of Swainsboro; daughter, Michelle (Rob) Cowart of Richmond Hill; son, Andy Newsome of Ormond Beach, FL; stepson, Jay Howard (Lauren) of Vidalia; sister, Janice Deloach of Swainsboro; grandsons, Colby Howard, Lane Howard; fur pets, Scooter, Chesley, and Spot; several other family members and many close friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, at Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Casey Shaw officiating.

Interment will follow at Swainsboro City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bryce Wilkerson, Marc Curry, Jeff Newsome, Mitch Newsome, Tal Henry, and Jamie Henry.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Emanuel County Sherriff’s Department, Gary Spence, Swainsboro Shrine Club clown unit, Henry Terwilliger, Gene Ragsdale, Gary Curry and Emanuel County Sportsman’s Club.
