Mr. Henry Richard “Poochie” Young Jr., 75, of Twin City passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at East GA Regional Medical Center in Statesboro following a brief illness.
Mr. Young was born October 12, 1945, in Clyo, GA to the late Henry Young Sr. and Rena Carr Young. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Renell young Hall; niece, Renetta Hall. Mr. Richard was educated in the Effingham County school system. In 1964, he graduated from Springfield Central High School. He joined Union Springs Methodist AME church at an early age. He later joined Pencostal Miracle Deliverance in Guyton, Ga. Years later, he attended Life Springs in Bloomingdale, Ga. Mr. Richard moved to Saint Augustine, Florida only to return home after several years and married his high school sweetheart Lorraine Williams. God later blessed him and his wife to start their own church, Word of Life in Twin City, Ga. For many years, Richard was employed at Gulfstream Aerospace until his health started to fail so he retired. He and his wife opened up a restaurant called Queen Lororia’s in Springfield, Ga. which they owned for many years. On Sunday August 22, 2021 Richard was called home from labor to reward.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lorraine Young of Twin City; son, Peter James of Twin City; daughter, JaLisa Latrelle James of Twin City; spiritual daughter, Sarah (Paul) Hooks of Swainsboro; sisters, Vera Young, Lynette Walls both of Clyo; grandchildren, Ja'von James, Joseph James, Jayla James, Jace' James; sister-in-law, Rosa Hooks; brother-in-law, Nigel Hooks; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Funeral Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021, in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home.
There will be an open visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Chapman Funeral Home. No family will be present due to covid precautions.
Interment will follow in Eastbrook Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Peter James, Nigel Hooks, Paul Hooks, Reginald Young, Robbie Cope, Robbie Cope II, and Trevor Young.
