Jackie Elmer Minton

Mr. Jackie Elmer Minton of Kite passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 in Dublin at age 83 surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Jackie was born on February 20, 1940 and was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Minton and Vina Bell Brantley Minton; brother, Lamar Minton; sister, Eloise Minton. He grew up on the Minton farm until he graduated from Kite High School and later played college basketball for South Georgia Tech, Brewton Parker, and Georgia Southern. Being an avid sportsman, he continued his basketball career coaching with close friends, Gene Ragsdale and Coach Dessie Davis.

He loved fishing, hunting, and grilling with his family and friends. He was dedicated to his faithful lab, Gracie, and looked forward to taking her for a ride every afternoon. Mr. Jackie was married to his loving wife, Betty, for 37 incredible years. He was a devoted husband, wonderful dad, fun loving Papa Jack, and true friend. To know him was to love him and he will be sorely missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Woods Minton; sons, Reid Johnson (Shelly) and Russ Johnson of Dublin; daughter, Debbie Koon (John) of Soperton; Brother, Billy Minton (Lorraine) of Swainsboro; sister, Martha Waller of Pringle; grandchildren, Kelli Koon Caraway (Jon), Lindsey Koon Moore (Derek), Myranda Driskell (Daniel), Myles Minton (Audra), Collin Scott (Brooke), Logan Scott (Taylor); great grandchildren, Sophie & Ollie Moore, Nora & Jackie Brooks Minton, Levi Scott, Paisley & Parker Minton, Red & Preston Driskell; nephews, Jaime Minton, Andrew Minton (Nikki), Doug Walker (Sherri), Regan Moxley (Joni), Robert Moxley (Marci)..

Pallbearers will be Jamie Minton, Andrew Minton, Doug Waller, Robert Moxley, Regan Moxley, Mitch Hall, Derek Moore, and Jon Caraway.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Ragsdale, Bill Day, Terry Bell, Bobby Fortner, Danny Fortner, Kevin McDaniel, Donnie Garrett, Bob Lovett, John Sumner, Dr. Clay Copher, and Mr. Jackie’s graduating class of 1957.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Mr. Tony Couey officiating and delivering the eulogy. The interment will follow at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Kite, Georgia with John Koon performing the committal.  

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Friday, April 21, 2023, at Chapman Funeral Home.
