Janet Elizabeth McKenzie

Mrs. Janet Elizabeth McKenzie, 81, of St. Petersburg, FL. passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020 following an extended illness.

Mrs. McKenzie was born October 11, 1938 to the late Glen Robert Peacock and Helen Marie Blackslee. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marie Quaine. Mrs. McKenzie was a 1956 graduate of St. Petersburg High School, then went on to attend St. Petersburg Junior College, graduated with her Bachelor Degree in education from the University of Florida, furthering her education she graduated from the University of Miami with her Masters Degree, then graduated from Nova with her Specialist Degree in education. She loved fishing, traveling, collecting peacocks, and reading, especially her Bible. She and her husband attended 5 Superbowl’s cheering on the Miami Dolphins. Mrs. McKenzie was a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church of Conyers. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Herman McKenzie of St. Petersburg, FL.; daughter, Janelle Jones (Roy) of Loganville, GA.; grandson, Garrett Roy Jones of Boston, MA.; brother, Robert Peacock of St. Petersburg, FL.; sister, Shirley Esposito of St. Petersburg, FL.; several nieces, nephews and many friends. 

Graveside Service will be Monday June 1, 2020 11 a.m. at Bithynia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Gladin officiating. Music by grandson, Garrett Roy Jones

Pallbearers are Ray McKenzie, Robert McKenzie, Kenneth McKinzie, Frank McKinzie, Larry Gladin and Greg Gladin.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Chapman Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In compliance with the guidelines set by the CDC, 6 feet rule will be enforced during viewing.
