Mr. Jimmy Lewis Flanders, Sr., 80, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness.

 

Mr. Flanders was born in Candler County, GA on July 31, 1940.  His parents were Otis and Lottie Brown Flanders.  He was educated in the Candler County public school system and graduated from Metter High School in 1958.  He attended Georgia Teachers College (Georgia Southern University) to qualify to enter Mercer University’s Southern College of Pharmacy.  He graduated from pharmacy school in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and became a registered pharmacist that same year.  He was employed as a pharmacist in Newnan, GA until relocating to Swainsboro in 1964.  He owned and operated a pharmacy, Flanders Pharmacy, until 1975.  At that time, he became the first full-time pharmacist at Emanuel County Hospital and held several administrative positions during his tenure.  In 1986 he became a staff pharmacist at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, GA, a position he held for 30 years.

 

Mr. Flanders was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Kathryn Britt Flanders.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Rachels Flanders; sons, Jim Flanders (Cindy) of Woodstock, GA, and Patrick Cooke of Soperton, GA; daughters, Kay Wilson (Raybon) of Metter, GA and Patricia Brinson (Glen) of Soperton, GA; granddaughters, Kathryn Prothro (Jason) of Thomasville, GA, Britt Flanders of Woodstock, GA, Dr. Tayler Brinson of Soperton and Andi Brinson of Soperton, GA; grandson, Geoffrey Cameron (Megan) of Madison, AL and 3 great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Flanders was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and served as a deacon.  He was a member and past president of Swainsboro Kiwanis and Jaycees.

 

Graveside Memorial Service will be private Wednesday, December 16, 2020.
