Mr. John Carl Samples, Sr., 95, of Swainsboro passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Emanuel County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mr. Samples was born January 16, 1926, in Twin City (Graymont) to the late Robert Samples and Elsie Samples. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Samples, Jr.; daughter, Linda Samples; brother, Willie Samples; sisters, Rosetta Samples, Mamie Samples, Marie White, Dora Samples. John Joined the Army, where he served his country proudly until his Honorable Discharge in 1946.
He married Jessie D. Strobridge on February 4, 1947, they lived in Swainsboro and raised their children.
John built a successful business as a carpet installer as a means to support his family. After retirement, one might find him on his porch chatting with family and visitors, telling stories about the “old days”. The simplest pleasures in life, such as hunting, farming, horseback riding, and fishing, brought John the greatest joy.
John C. Samples was a lifetime member of St. Phillip Lodge Number 96, serving 70 years, and a former member of the L. J. Riggs Holy Royal Arch Chapter Number 24. He was a member of Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Jessie D. Samples of Swainsboro; sons, Jerome Samples of Macon, Christopher Samples (Roxanne) of Swainsboro; daughters, Mary Strobridge, Nancy Shimoyama both of Swainsboro, Andrea Samples-Elliott (Steven) of Loganville, Sophia Neal of Swainsboro; daughter-in-law, Frances Samples; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021, at Chapman Funeral Home.
