Obituary

Mr. John Davison Skipper, Jr., 76, of Swainsboro passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Skipper was born September 15, 1946 to the late John Davison Skipper, Sr. and Amy Williamson Skipper.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chester Skipper; grandson, Daniel Skipper. He married the love of his life on April 5th, 1987. Over the last 38 years they have built a wonderful life together. They had 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren that he loved with all he had. If you were to ask his granddaughter Bri (Boogie bear as he called her) he was the absolute best! Mr. John was a simple man with a lot of love to give. His family often called him waterworks because he would cry at every happy ending of a movie. When he wasn’t spending time with his family he was able to be found sitting at Sonic drinking a sweet Tea. In the warmer months, “Skipper” as everybody knew him could be found driving his 67 Volkswagen, he modified back in 1990. He was a pro at burnouts, and we were always betting on when he would get a speeding ticket. He enjoyed going to the flea market where he would spend hours looking at things he knew he didn’t need but would justify it with “I might need it later”. We are pretty sure he was Trump’s biggest supporter. If you knew him he always had on a hat and a sticker on his car and his flags flapping at home. Mr. John spent hours on his front porch in his last days watching his birds, making sure they were fed and enjoying what he had worked all his life to build. He was a strong willed stubborn old man up until his last day here with us on earth, but we find peace knowing he is now able to do all the things he loved without pain and we will see him again someday.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara E. Skipper; son, John D. Skipper, III of Orange, TX; brother, Jimmy Williamson (Janie) of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Christa Braswell (Bradley), Kristi Skipper, Nikki Minton (Drew), Reniya Braswell, Elaina Skipper; great-grandchildren, Savannah Skipper, Zoey Braswell, Bri-Ella Braswell, Dean Woods, Jagger Braswell, Willow Minton, Kobe Caraway, Kane Caraway, Rayli Caraway; and many friends.
