Lamar Shirey

Mr. Lamar Shirey, 82, of Appling passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Shirey was born June 23, 1940, in Bartow to the late Grady Shirey and Vicy Jane Martin Shirey.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Shirey.  Lamar grew up in Bartow.  He was a selfless, great loving and caring man.  He always tried to give and do for everyone; he would literally give you the shirt off his back.  Lamar was the hardest working man and one of the best salesmen on the planet.  He served our country in the Army.  Lamar was a great businessman in the Augusta area for most of his life, starting out working at JM Fields to owning multiple Lamar’s TV and Appliance retail stores throughout the CSRA.  His last store, Brandon’s Mattress Outlet was named after his pride and joy, his grandson, Brandon.  Some of his favorite pastimes were just about anything to do with golf and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Puzo (Lou) of Lincolnton; grandson, Brandon Kirk (Katie) of Appling; brother, Earl Shirey (Barbara) of Adrian; sister, Margaret Howell (James) of Eatonton; great-grandsons, Luke Kirk and Tyler Kirk; and many friends.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Dowless officiating.

Interment will follow in Swainsboro City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Chapman Funeral Home.   

Pallbearers are Brandon Kirk, Grady Shirey, David Grant, Mark Howell, Brad Witcher, Brian Shepard, Luke Kirk and Tyler Kirk.
