Mr. Leo Carl Walters, 80, of Swainsboro died Friday morning, October 4, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Walters was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to the late John and Sue Walters. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Walters and John Walters, Jr.; sister, Suzanne Tompkins; nephew, Jeff Tompkins; cousins, Rita Lesh and Honey Springer. Mr. Walters lived in Pennsylvania until 1984 when he moved to Swainsboro. Mr. Walters served in the United States Navy aboard the U. S. S. NEWPORT NEWS and was in the Korean War. He worked many years with Spaulding Bakery and Pennitte Coal both in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. After moving to Swainsboro, Mr. Walters worked eight years with the Georgia State Prison in Reidsville. Mr. Leo enjoyed going to the lake, the mountains and visiting his friends. He attended Emanuel Christian Ministries.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Judy Walters of Swainsboro; son, John Morgan Walters of Swainsboro; daughter, Deborah Ann Walters of Swainsboro; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Walters; brother-in-law, Rudy (Michelle) Horton; cousin, Marlene (Bobby) Olaski; nieces, Mary Sharon Walters, Yolanda Tompkins and Janice Tompkins; nephews, Billy (Laura) Tompkins, Rudy (Kathryn) Horton, Jr. and David (Deborah) Walters; and a host of friends.
Services will be held at the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon, October 6, 2013 with Reverend Bunny Hudson officiating. Burial will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Adam Foxworth, Sam Worthington, Ronnie Shumake, Gary Hodges, Donnie Watkins and Albert Hall.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Henry, Dal Durden, Glenn Grimes, Ezra Price and Greg Newsome.
