Ms. Mattie Lee Young, 85, of Swainsboro departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 5, 2019 following an extended illness.

Ms. Mattie Lee Young (Mat Lee) as she was known by most, lived a happy and good life, always doing what she could to help others. She never met a stranger and she would cook and feed anybody. Ms. Young married at an early age and was the mother of eight children. She was born May 8, 1934 in Swainsboro to the late John Watson and Carrie Easterling Watson. Ms. Young served faithfully at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church until she became sick. She worked and held several jobs of employment, Diamond Brothers, Southeastern Tech, Emanuel County Senior Citizens, Emanuel County Health Department to name a few. Ms. Mattie loved everybody, especially her Lord and Savior. She loved listening to gospel music. Ms. Young never let anything, or no one slow her down. She loved the holidays where she stayed in the kitchen cooking for her guest. Ms. Young had a passion for her family, gardening, and cooking. She will be dearly missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charlie Young, Jr.; sons, Johnny Lee Young, Willie James Young, and Master Tony Young; daughter, Lela Bell Coleman; brother, John Watson.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail Young Heggs of Swainsboro; sons, Charles Young (Sharon) of Swainsboro, Dale Young of Swainsboro, and Tyrone Young (Ramona) of Augusta; sisters, Juanita Worthen of Swainsboro and Bessie Gordon of Lake Worth, FL; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 15, 2019 2 p.m. at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

Interment will be held in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, June 14, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.
